In Case I Forget…

I want to teach my daughter a million things, I want to warn her about a million more, then I want her to experience everything she can. I know that she will have to learn it all in her own time.

Scarlett – if you ever read this, these are the things I want you to know, plus everything I forgot.

  1. You will always have a home.
  2. Pizza, just say yes!
  3. There will be mean girls in your life, ignore them, they won’t ever be happy.
  4. Be who you are. If you want pink hair, have pink hair.
  5. You only get one first, choose wisely because you always remember your first.
  6. Marry someone you can talk to, someone you can laugh with, someone who makes you smile. Looks fade.
  7. Choose a career that makes you happy and that you love. You will spend at least 80 hours a week doing it, make sure you have a passion for it.
  8. Sunscreen!

  9. Boys will come and go in your life. Make sure you don’t forget about your friends.
  10. Travel as much as you can. You can always save more money.
  11. Experience all that you can. Jump off the cliff into the water. Try that new ethnic food.
  12. Yes, your grandparents will be ‘old fashion’ but remember they have lived longer than you, just listen to what they have to say, you may be surprised.
  13. Be nice to the less popular kids, they have feelings too.
  14. Be goofy.
  15. Don’t laugh or get frustrated with me or your Dad if we ask you to show us how to do something. We taught you how to use a fork, and to use the potty, and to walk…
  16. There will always be someone less fortunate than you, so be grateful for what you have.
  17. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
  18. Believe is second chances, but there isn’t such thing as third or fourth.
  19. People will tell you that you can’t do it because you’re a girl. Do it anyways!
  20. Dream big. If your dreams don’t scare you, dream bigger.
  21. Dance party in the kitchen.
  22. It’s OK to go to bed early.
  23. Missing a night out with your friends is not the end of the world.
  24. Family is so important, even when they get on your nerves.
  25. Learn to say “no”
  26. Wear the heels. They have magical powers.
  27. Read everything you can get your hands on.
  28. Read the classics, it’s a whole new world.
  29. It’s OK to be girly. It’s OK to like pink.

  30. Say yes to fruit.
  31. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. It doesn’t make you weak or stupid. It makes you strong. A lesson that is hard to learn for some.
  32. Learn another language.
  33. Pure pressure, it will happen. If you don’t feel comfortable, don’t do it. You will be a stronger person for it.
  34. Exercise for health.
  35. DO NOT EVER drink and drive. It’s never worth it.
  36. I will always be there for you, even when you think I’m not.
  37. People with criticize you. Take it and make it into a challenge to do better.
  38. Take things with a grain of salt. Not everything is a personal attack on you.
  39. Grades aren’t everything, however, a degree could open doors for you.
  40. Just remember the one day you want to skip class, that will be the day that something fantastic happens.
  41. Pets are a big responsibility. Don’t take that lightly.
  42. Soda pop isn’t that great. Water is better.
  43. Don’t forget to floss.

  44. Your hair will grow back, cut it short at least once.
  45. Please and thank you will take you a long ways.
  46. Be polite, but not a push over.
  47. People are a loud to have there own opinion.
  48. Let them. You don’t have to agree
  49. It’s OK to cry.
  50. If you happen to be in the closet, I will love you even if you come out.
  51. If I give you a curfew, be on time. You would like me in the wee hours of the morning.
  52. Learn to love yourself.
  53. When you love yourself, you will love another.
  54. Don’t count the calories, eat the cookie.
  55. Everything in moderation.
  56. Europe! See it.

  57. Never lower your standards
  58. Never make someone you priority, when to them you are merely an option.
  59. Try everything once and if you like it do it again and again.
  60. Don’t be scared because something ‘could’ happen. If it happens, it happens.
  61. Don’t worry about the thing you can not control. It’s wasted energy.
  62. Smile!
  63. Be nice to your brother. You will need him more than you could imagine one day.
  64. Try not to break too many hearts.
  65. Eat your greens.
  66. Hobbies are important.
  67. Swim in the ocean.
  68. Appreciate the simple things in life. They usually have the most meaning.
  69. It’s OK to take time out for yourself. You need it every now and then.
  70. Ring out the dishcloth.
  71. Take care of things you have, they will last longer.
  72. Clean as you go. This will give you more time to do the things you enjoy.
  73. Don’t smoke or e smoke or what ever version they come up with next. It’s just bad.
  74. Take a walk through the woods. Maybe bring some bug spray.
  75. Watch a sunrise.

  76. Be a tourist in your own town. You’d be surprised what you discover.
  77. Be a positive person, even in bad situations. It’s less toxic for your soul.
  78. Time is precious.
  79. I know I said it before, but seriously, Sunscreen!
  80. Just know that your Dad and I will always, always love you!

So in case I forget to teach you something, or tell you something, these are just some of the millions of things I want you to know. Life is so short and there is so much to see, experience, taste. You are young and I want to give you all the tools you need now, so that you can do what ever you put your mind too. I believe that you will dream big. I need to be prepared for that.
